In Jerusalem's orthodox neighborhoods, a devout couple, Moshe and Mali, celebrate Succot while grappling with their childless, broke situation. Miraculously, they receive unexpected blessings: a friend offers them an abandoned sukkah, they benefit from local charitable fundraising, and two escaped convicts show up as their ushpizin, or guests. Set during Succot, "Ushpizin" modernizes the Genesis story of Abraham welcoming guests, exploring themes of faith and love amid trials that require patience, humor, and a touch of resilience. |
