Gussie Singer, Director of Intervention Services
Gussie Singer joined the faculty at the Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School in 2012 as the Director of Intervention Services. She manages the Learning Enhancement Team of professionals, the extensive services they provide, alongside collaboration with classroom teachers in all 3 divisions to ensure we uphold the value of being an inclusive Community of Individuals. Gussie is proud to be a parent advocate and partner in helping families with some of the most challenging and uplifting educational moments of their children's lives. Gussie is also the faculty Advisor to the Student Council. Gussie was the Principal of the Edgewood Community School in San Francisco, CA, a school for students with learning disabilities. It was there that she developed her specialties in structured reading instruction and proactive and crisis behavior management.
Although Gussie is originally from New York, her family relocated from San Francisco to Northeast Ohio, because her husband, David joined the faculty at Kent State University. He is a tenured professor of Earth Sciences. David has enjoyed participating as a judge in the Mandel JDS middle school science fair and has been a guest speaker in lower school classes presenting about soil and fossils. Gussie has two children who are Mandel JDS students. Asa, 9, in 4th grade, and Hannah,11, in 6th grade.
